Liberty sophomore setter Courtney Boggs (2008) became the third different Lady
Flame to be recognized for her role in the team’s trio of road victories last week.
Today, Boggs was named a Collegiate Volleyball Update (CVU.com) Top
Performer.

Boggs (Marysville, Ohio), one of 11 players in the nation to earn Top Performer
distinction on Tuesday, is Liberty’s second player to be tabbed a CVU.com Top
Performer this season. Senior middle blocker Chelaine McCarty (Houston, Ala.)
was previously honored on Sept. 29. McCarty was also named Big South Player of
the Week on Monday, and Kelly Haseman (So., L/DS, Three Rivers, Mich.) took
home the Big South Defensive Player of the Week award.

Boggs helped the Lady Flames defeat conference foes Radford, Coastal Carolina
and Winthrop on the road last week. Liberty only dropped one set in the process,
as the Lady Flames claimed sole possession of second place in the Big South
Conference standings at 9-2.

The Buckeye State native took over the starting setter position five matches ago,
after Big South Preseason Player of the Year Kallie Corbin (Sr., S, Beaverton, Ore.)
sustained an injury, and has helped Liberty go 4-1 over that stretch. Last week,
Boggs tallied 127 assists, while hitting .414 with 14 kills, 21 digs and six blocks.
Boggs directed a Liberty offense which hit .315 for the week and saw four players
notch 28 or more kills.

Boggs opened her week by flirting with her first career triple-double, Oct. 20 at
Radford. She finished Liberty’s 3-1 win with 45 assists, eight kills and eight digs.
Four days later, Boggs tallied 45 more assists and hit 1.000 with three kills, as the
Lady Flames handed Winthrop just its second home setback in 14 outings this
season.


Sophomore Haley Gribler (2008) of Lock Haven Gribler, a PSAC First Teamer,
earned 2009 Daktronics NCAA Division II All-Atlantic Region Volleyball honors.
Haley recorded 399 kills and also tallied 41 total blocks and 64 aces. For the year
she hit .278 for the season averaging 3.12 kills per set. One of Gribler’s best
performances was a 22-kill effort against Queen’s College (Canada). She only had
one error in the match and hit .600. Gribler also recieved honorable mention in the
AVCA Atlantic All region team. Haley was also named first team PSAC east
division


ALL-NCAC VOLLEYBALL SQUAD ANNOUNCED
Wittenberg sophomore Kate Sumner (2008) makes her debut on the All-NCAC
squad as a member of the first team.

Top-seeded Wittenberg claimed its 15th North Coast Tournament title and earned
an automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Championship with a 24-26, 25-22, 26-
24, 25-12 decision over Hiram in the championship match. Katie Sumner (2008) led
the Tigers in the championship match with 11 kills and a .611 attack percentage.
Christine Simpson's (2008) sizzling .441 attack percentage throughout the
tournament earned her a spot on the NCAC All-Tournament Team.


Otterbein freshman middle hitter Ally Nagle (2009) has been named OAC
Freshman of the Year in addition to selected to the 2009 All-Ohio Athletic
Conference (OAC) team. Nagle, spending her first season at Otterbein, led the
conference with a .392 hitting percentage by converting 375 of 773 chances. She
was also named to the All-Tournament team at the Ohio Wesleyan, Cardinal
Classic, North Park, and Mount St. Joseph’s tournaments.

Nagle ranked fourth in the OAC with 3.10 kills per game and hit over .300 in eight
of the team’s nine conference matches. In addition, she broke Otterbein’s single-
season hitting percentage.


The Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) office released its 2009 Academic All-OAC
Volleyball Teams and Alex Weissling (2008) received Academic All-OAC
honorable mention. Weissling had her second straight standout season with the
Pioneers in 2009. The 2008 All-OAC honoree battled injury but still averaged 2.79
kills, which ranked second on the squad. Weissling also added 0.48 services aces
and 2.48 digs per set this season. She reached double figures in kills in 15
matches and posted 9 double-doubles (kills and digs) on the year. Weissling
collected a season-high 18 kills against Capital and 18 digs against Baldwin-
Wallace. The two-year letterman holds a  3.49 grade point average as a Finance
major with minors in Leadership and Marketing.
