Scott Nelson







Scott was the Head Girls Varsity Volleyball Coach at Dublin Scioto during the 2002 - 2007 seasons.
During his tenure, the Irish won OCC Conference Championships in 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007,
qualified for the District Semi-Finals each of those six seasons, and won District Championships in
2004 and 2007, placing them in the "Sweet 16" in Division 1 of the State of Ohio. These
accomplishments earned Scott the Central District Co- Coach of the Year in 2005 and 2006, ESI
Sportsmanship Award in 2005, the OCC Cardinal Division’s Coach of the Year in 2004 and 2005, and
the OCC Capital Division Coach of the Year in 2006 and Co-Coach of the Year in 2007. Prior to
Scioto, Scott was the JV/Assistant Girls Varsity Coach at Westerville North for two years and the
Freshman Girls Coach at Simley High School in Inver Grove Heights, MN. He also coached the 7th
grade team for Holy Trinity Middle School in Lenexa, KS. Scott has also been involved in boys
volleyball as the Head Boys Varsity Volleyball Coach at Dublin Jerome High School 2005 and
earned the OBSVCA Regional Coaches Achievement Award that season.   

An active participant in USAV as a coach, player, and official, Scott coached CVA's U14 team in
2006, the only U14 team in Central Ohio to earn a bid to compete in the Junior National Tournament
in Minneapolis. The team finished 5th in the OVR U14 National Division. Prior to CVA he coached
U14 and U18 girls and U18 boys teams for CapCity Volleyball Club and was voted “Coach of the
Club” in 2003. Prior to CapCity, he coached two seasons for Polaris Central Volleyball Club at the
U15 and U14 levels, three seasons for Northern Heat Volleyball Club (MN) at the U17 level, and
one season for Pittsburgh Golden Triangles Volleyball Club at the U16 level. He was a USAV
Provisional Official for two years and obtained CAP I and Impact Coaching and ASEP Director
Certifications. Prior to coaching, Scott played as an Outside Hitter for the Miami University Men’s
Volleyball Club and competed in USAV Adult Men’s Volleyball competition.  

Several of Coach Nelson’s former girls and boys players have gone on to play collegiate volleyball
either as a scholarship or walk-on athlete at schools such as: The Ohio State University, Tiffin
University, Wittenberg University, Ohio University, Ashland College, Dennison University, the
University of Alabama-Birmingham, Rose-Hulman College, Marietta College, Otterbein College,
Indiana Tech, and Heidleberg College.

Coach Nelson lives in Dublin with his wife Beth and children Jake and Alyssa.
